General Motors Collaborates With The Sustainable City, Enables EV Sharing

General Motors Africa and Middle East recently announced that The Sustainable City, the region’s first fully operational sustainable community, has taken delivery of six new Chevrolet Bolt EVs for its alternative propulsion fleet.

The new cars will be part of The Sustainable City’s car-sharing fleet, which will be accessible to all residents. This eases mobility within the community while minimizing environmental impact. With a class-leading range of up to 520km per charge, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is the ideal vehicle to contribute to The Sustainable City’s transport ecosystem.

With its efforts around alternate propulsion vehicles and mobility sharing solutions, GM stands as the ideal partner to the UAE government’s wider vision of sustainable and smart mobility solutions.

John Roth, President and Managing Director of General Motors Africa and Middle East, said, “The Sustainable City, as an international model for green living, is strongly aligned with our vision for a future of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion so this is a natural next step in our partnership, which we announced earlier this year.”

The way people, goods, and things are moving is changing rapidly. The concept of vehicle ownership has shifted in recent years. The Sustainable City is an exercise in practising modern mobility solutions to pioneer how cities of the future can accommodate rapid urbanisation. Roth expressed confidence in the Chevrolet Bolt EV, asserting that the car will exceed expectations whilst supporting the UAE government’s agenda to move towards cleaner, interconnected mobility in the years ahead.

General Motors’ efforts around alternate propulsion vehicles and mobility sharing solutions are perfectly aligned with the UAE government’s vision for sustainable and smart mobility solutions. This makes GM one of the key drivers in the region’s motoring landscape.

As the first low-carbon community in the Middle East, The Sustainable City is a benchmark in sustainable living. Karim El Jisr, Executive Director of SEE Institute, said, “We are dedicated to promoting environment-friendly mobility solutions, from public transportation all the way to car sharing. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is an apt vehicle combining both performance and comfort, which is why it was our first choice when launching our electric car sharing program exclusive to the residents of The Sustainable City.”

The program aims to increase EV adoption by residents, replace personally owned vehicles, and curb the overall carbon footprint of The Sustainable City. The strategic partnership solidifies both stakeholders’ position as leaders in Dubai’s move to a sustainable future.

Delivering the fleet of Chevrolet Bolt EVs to The Sustainable City, CEO of Al Ghandi Auto Mark Jenkins commented, “As one of the Emirate’s leading dealerships we are very excited to have delivered six Bolt EVs to The Sustainable City community, highlighting our commitment to support the UAE government’s initiatives in creating a greener future mobility landscape. Going green is no easy feat. However, with products like the Chevrolet Bolt EV, this goal becomes more achievable day by day. We look forward to continue strengthening this partnership in the future.”
